my easter-inspired mantel

it must be spring; i can feel it in my bones!
that deep craving for bare legs & rich green grass.
the simple beginnings of our garden… fingers deep in the dirt covering seeds.
bright colors & warm sunshine.

despite the dark & gloomy days that have been lingering around these parts, i’m certain spring is just around the corner.
to celebrate, i decorated my mantel with cheerful spring & easter-inspired decorations!
i re-used last year’s bunny banner from target & strung it atop my big green boxwood wreath (also from target). i purchased a few gold dot easter eggs from hobby lobby for a bit of sparkly goodness.
amidst my collection of old hardback books & chippy frames, i placed a green mason jar on my mantel full of this season’s happy flags!
my etsy shop re-opens this thursday, march 12th, with bright & colorful goods just in time for the arrival of spring!
i absolutely love the easter-inspired set of happy flags (shown above)! i imagine them bundled up in an easter basket & peeking out of wheatgrass on a cozy mantelpiece.
i’m also introducing mini happy flags! yay!
they’re perfect for tiny plants, cupcakes, party decorations & more. this rainbow set can transition from spring to summer, adding a pop of color to any tabletop!
& of course, there will be more of the skinny headbands in happy spring colors as well as reversible headbands & stretchy bands!
i hope you’ll join me at my shop on thursday, march 12th at 8am cst!
as a little thank you for following along on my shop adventures & for taking a peek at my blog, i am offering blog readers a 20% discount on purchases of $10 or more with code “bloglove” at checkout (code is good through march 12th!). you can shop right here.
i’d love for you to share your spring-inspired mantel!

weekend sewing

it’s a rare gift when i give myself enough time to sew just for me. as my little hobby of stitching turned into a full-time business, i gave up quite a lot of time creating just for the purpose of keeping. i cherish the time spent with my little sewing machine sewing up pillows, quilts & curtains for our home.
last weekend, though, i spent my entire saturday evening sewing little things for our home.
it was pure bliss.

i picked up that arkansas tea towel at a boutique show last fall with the intention of turning it into a pillow top. it stayed on my fabric shelf collecting dust until last weekend when i finally tackled this forgotten project.
the sweater pillow was also a quick stitch project. you can find erin’s tutorial right here.

i paired the tea towel with a bit of gray polka dot fabric & stuffed it with a thrifted feather down pillow.
before finishing the project, i spent just a few minutes embroidering a little wonky-shaped heart around our town, fayetteville. i absolutely love how this pillow turned out!

i also made a little yellow mini bunting banner for my tobacco basket, a beloved christmas gift from my parents. i left the rough edges, sewed just the top & strung the pieces with gardening twine.
so simple & the happiest touch for this little corner.

i love a good weekend spent checking off those home project to-do’s. i hope you spend just an hour or two this weekend making something special just for you.

what are you sewing up & creating for your home?

birthday calendar – a new favorite organizational tool

like most, i have caught the spring cleaning bug.
this has resulted in spending my free time cleaning out our linen closets & pantry, recycling & donating whatever we didn’t absolutely love or use.
the cleaning bug has also hijacked my organizational systems, throwing out the old & making room for new organizational tools. a couple of months ago, i shared some of my favorite organizational calendars & systems.
well, friends. i’ve just added a new one to the list…
a good ol’ fashioned birthday calendar!
my birthday calendar is from my dear friends at 1canoe2, but you can even find birthday calendar printables on pinterest.
on one particular sunday afternoon, i sat down with my daily calendar & added all of our favorite people’s birthdays & anniversaries to our birthday calendar.
having a birthday calendar is especially helpful in maintaining a budget & specifically, your giving category. with a quick glance, i am able to adjust our budget according to the amount of birthdays & special events each month!
i also love that i can plan ahead with gift giving & this means no one gets left out.

i hung our sweet little calendar in our mail station by our pantry. it adds a pop of cheer & keeps me organized. win win!
has the spring cleaning bug hit your home? what changes are you making to feel lighter?
love,
natalie
