Master Bedroom Remodel Reveal

Our time at home during COVID-19 has been marked by home projects. Y’all, I have reorganized, cleaned out & painted every square inch of our space. It feels incredible!

We finally wrapped up our bedroom remodel, which has been in process for months. WE LOVE IT. It feels like going to bed & waking up in a tranquil spa every morning.

The only item left in this space is our bed, which was my great uncle’s – I love it’s simple style & size. The rest was sold & replaced with what we knew we’d love for years to come.

As I shared the process of our remodel on social, so many folks commented on how much my style has changed. I do believe there has been an evolution of growth in what I gravitate towards (I started this blog when I was 19! Let’s hope my style has changed, ha!). But my style has also grown with my budget & what I can afford to purchase for our space.

For so long, I pieced together rooms with yard sale or thrift shop finds & pieces handed down from family. I love a good thrifty find & our home still has a mix of old & new, but this time around, with a bit of expandable income saved up, I knew I wanted to wait until we could purchase exactly what we wanted.

For our bedroom, I knew I craved texture, pattern & neutral tones with pops of blush. I am very thankful that Luke loves what I pick out & doesn’t mind a hint of pink in his room.

I fell in love with this wallpaper, which was the inspiration for the entire space. It reminds me of our travels with a bit of a modern feel mixed in.

One addition to the room was my vanity corner. We only have one bathroom in our home, which presents many problems when we’re trying to get ready & off to work in the mornings. A friend had an idea to put a vanity in this corner where I could get ready each morning & it works beautifully.

Another upgrade was removing the old carpet & putting in hardwood flooring. Due to our budget, we decided to go with engineered hardwood from Lumber Liquidators. We have that style of hardwood throughout our entire home & it’s held up so well despite our rugged farm life, ha! To make it extra cozy & provide more texture, I placed a rug beneath our bed.

Finally, we added a full-length mirror to an empty corner on the far side of the room. I used to have a dorm style mirror on the back of my closet door so this feels like such an upgrade!

Here are all of the sources for our bedroom:

+ Wallpaper
+ Paint: Ultra White by Valspar
+ Manufactured Hardwood Flooring from Lumber Liquidators
+ Vanity
+ Vanity stool
+ Round wall mirror
+ Rug
+ Bedside Table Lamps (similar)
+ Bedside Tables
+ Dresser
+ Full length mirror
+ Cranes artwork
+ Pendant light
+ Sheets
+ Linen Down Comforter
+ Quilt & Shams
+ Throw pillows (here & here – similar)

With this project wrapped up, we’re finishing our dining room & workout room! I cannot wait to share those spaces with you soon!

Four Ways to Recharge During the Busyness of Spring

The arrival of spring beckons a busyness like no other. Easter, Mother’s Day, graduation, birthdays, Teacher Appreciation Week – you name it, it’s happening in April or May.
And while the calendar may be filled, it’s still so important to make time for ourselves to recharge & reboot.

Today I want to share four simple & affordable ways to care for ourselves during the hustle & bustle of springtime!
1. Get some fresh air: Go for a walk while listening to your favorite podcast, read a book on the patio or simply listen to your favorite jams while walking around the ball fields at your kiddo’s practice. Simply moving our bodies & soaking up some vitamin D gives us a much-needed boost.
2. Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers: I say this time & time again, but purchasing fresh flowers is such a simple yet effective way to brighten our surroundings & our mood. Even a grocery store bouquet will do!

3. Get plenty of rest: When I feel over extended, I always make sure to still get plenty of sleep. Last year we tossed our old mattress & replaced it with a new mattress from Solay. It may be a financial commitment, but it has made such a difference in how we rest & how our bodies feel.
Solay is kindly offering natalie creates readers a FREE Solay pillow ($100 value) when they purchase  a queen or king mattress with code “NATALIEPILLOW” at checkout! Click here to grab yours! Please note – your mattress must be in your cart with your pillow in order for the discount to work.
4. Go out on a coffee date: Sometimes all we need is a date with a friend to make our days feel a little less chaotic. Even when my week feels crazy, I always look forward to time spent in good conversation over coffee with a dear friend. It fills me up so I can serve others well.

Even with limited time & resources, let this be a reminder & inspiration to carve out a little time just for you no matter the season! With just a few bucks, you can grab a coffee with a girlfriend or purchase a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store. Even a good night’s rest & a walk can make such a difference!
Comment below & let me know how you extend kindness & love to yourself in seasons of busyness!

Tips for Establishing a Dinnertime Tradition

Supper time is sacred time at the farmhouse.
Almost a decade ago, Luke & I began our family dinnertime ritual. With the hustle & bustle of everyday life, we knew setting aside an hour to eat a meal together & talk about our day was time well-spent. Whether we’re eating a feast on fine china or pizza on paper plates, it’s intentional, uninterrupted time we look forward to each day.
Today I want to share a handful of tips for creating your own dinnertime traditions! I’ve teamed up with Red Diamond – my favorite source for unsweetened tea served at suppertime – to share how we carve out time in our day to reconnect around the dinner table.
1. KEEP A CLEAN SPACE: I know this sounds simple, but it’s hard to enjoy dinner at the table when bills, backpacks & clutter fill the space. I always make a point to put everything away right when I get home to eliminate having to throw it to the side just as I am serving supper. Bonus – Create a “command station” in your entryway, a closet or right by the front door to place bills, backpacks & more so you can keep the kitchen table clean & clear.
2. CREATE A BEAUTIFUL TABLE: Light candles, treat yourself to a beautiful bouquet of flowers, get out your wedding china, & use cloth napkins. This is time to slow down & enjoy each other’s company & conversation so make it count.
If it’s an extra full day & you can’t quite swing an elaborate tablescape, make paper plates special by serving camp-inspired food like hotdogs & kettle chips. Turn out all of the lights & eat by candlelight – this is sure to make extra special family memories!
3. MEAL PLAN: Create a meal plan that aligns with your weekly responsibilities & commitments. If it’s sure to be a busy day, make your family’s favorite crockpot meal. I love to serve up delicious chili on nights when I can’t quite swing an elaborate meal.
4. THE LITTLE DETAILS MATTER: Every Monday night, we always go over to my husband’s childhood home for Family Dinner. I always know my mother-in-law will have something special to drink – she never serves just water.
This little detail never goes unnoticed to me so I am working hard to bring this small but special tradition into our home. I love Red Diamond’s Unsweet Tea because it’s simple (just grab it at the store & serve) & it’s made with the real stuff (no weird additives – just tea leaves & water).
5. ELIMINATE DISCTRACTIONS: A big tip for a successful dinnertime ritual is to eliminate distraction. Remove your phones & set a rule that no one can answer a call, respond to a text, or scroll Instagram while at the table. This is sure to inspire richer conversation & thoughtful time together as a family.
6. SHARE RESPONSIBILITY: In our family, the rule is simple – If one cooks, the other cleans. It allows not just one family member to be burdened by the task of dinnertime.
I’d love to know your tips & tricks for dinnertime & if you’ve tried Red Diamond! Share your thoughts in the comments below!
