the makings of a pizza

one of {our} favorite things to do together is make dinner, & we especially love to make pizza. we buy provolone cheese & whole wheat dough from a small pizza place in downtown. we bring that home, pile our own, homemade sauce onto it, & make it to our liking with chopped veggies & herbs. it is absolutely delicious & very cheap. we usually play some music & dance around the kitchen as we wait for the pizza to bake in the oven.
since moving into my little house in the woods, i’ve loved being in the kitchen. with fresh food from the farmer’s market & cut herbs lining the window sill, i enjoy experimenting & creating & changing a dish to my liking.
last night, luke & I celebrated the coming-home of our first kitchen table together & made a meal of sliced boiled eggs, couscous with tomatoes & parsley, & honeydew with blackberries
summer is a celebration of fresh meals & cool evenings at the kitchen table, conversing & sharing a meal. I love that!

meal plan dilemma .

these photographs are from our float trip a few weeks ago. driving back, we stopped in this wildflower field & picked a huge bouquet. they were absolutely beautiful!

but- I am in need of some help! luke & I, for the past month or so, have been making a meal plan for the week. we are starting to collect recipes & plan to make a recipe box soon. I feel really good about dinner, but the real problem lies within my packed lunches. I have no idea of what to pack. yes, I love leftovers but sometimes we don’t have them. I am so tired of turkey sandwiches & carrying around loads of tupperware bowls in my bag.
so, i’d like to know if you have any ideas for me?! I would prefer healthier alternatives than potato chips & peanut butter + jelly sandwiches. thanks for your ideas- I look forward to hearing from you!

ps. have you heard about {abby}? she’s one of my favorite bloggers & photographers & she’s trying to raise some funds to get to the {second storie indie market}! read {here} about her photography set, specifically for this event, & a $2 donation at her {shop}!

summer evenings.

with luke working at the bakery in the mornings & my work schedule into the early evenings, we are only left with a few hours in the evening to spend together. it can be difficult at times to make dinner, spend quality time together, & give luke enough time to sleep before waking up at five for work. but- luke, last week, planned a special date for us. he packed delicious sandwiches, fresh snap peas, hummus, & kiwis & took me to peace park, where we first met. afterwards, we went to our favorite theater, ragtag, & watched “away we go.” it was such a quirky film; i really recommend it!
this afternoon, we are leaving for a week-long trip to fayetteville to visit his family. I always have such an enjoyable time with his family so I am really looking forward to our stay! I will be away from this space until monday morning.
enjoy your weekend!
