light

{evening light}
over a month ago, luke & I made our first trip to the farmer’s market together since the first few weeks of the market opening. now that he works at the bakery, he has to be there too early & works until after it closes. I usually go with a friend or by myself, but this weekend was particularly special because I was with him. it reminded me of the previous summer, when we were dating, & our weekly trips to the market. we didn’t miss the fresh produce & flowers for anything! it was my favorite part of the week; I would pick him up, we’d bring along our canvas bags & fill them to the brim with delicious food while talking & enjoying the warm breeze of summer mornings.
well, on our special farmer’s market morning, he bought me these beautiful flowers which I cut & placed all around the house. one evening, before cooking dinner, I caught the light so perfectly on the petals & the light blue of the mason jar & it made me smile. sometimes I forget how beautiful life can be. in food, in art, in people- we see glimpses of beauty. let’s celebrate it.

I sometimes feel this huge guilt of becoming a “bad” blogger, but then I realize that it is okay because I am living life instead of blogging about it. in the last month, I have married my love, traveled to north carolina & tucked myself away in the mountains, moved into our first home, & I have also started classes. So, in the midst of mentally putting down myself for not blogging in a week, I remember that I have an incredible husband at home who would really like to spend time with me. so, I am over that guilt.

but- I would really like for life to slow down a tad bit. the seasons are slowly changing, the days shorter, & the mornings cooler. abby over at her {blog} made a plan for fall.
I have a small one for myself, too:
+ make apple butter & apple sauce with sandy’s seconds at the farmer’s market
+knit a scarf instead of purchasing one
+wear leggings & lots of boots
+go pumpkin picking
+watch a movie at home & drink apple cider with luke
what’s your plan?

max patch.

while in north carolina, luke & I spent an afternoon high up in the mountains, on max patch. it was a breath-taking view; on a clear day, you can see 100 miles in every direction.
we walked up the trail to the clearing & found delicious, ripe blackberries & many types of wildflowers & medicinal herbs. we spent some time at the top, making photos & eating our packed lunches. it was such an incredible afternoon.
now, back in columbia, I crave the quiet of the blue ridge mountains & the clean air you breath in at the very top. we’ve been unpacking our apartment for three days now. yesterday, after coming home from work, I found luke in our apartment, with built bookcases, curtains hung, & boxes unpacked. he’s too good 🙂
I have so much to blog about & I promise I’ll catch up in the next few weeks. until then, I have to finish more of my to-do’s!
