i am over the moon with my friends at haven enterprise & their wood working magic.
i was so excited to work with them to create this gorgeous trivet with the word “gather” carved into it.
it makes me teary just thinking about the word gather & it’s significance in our every day lives.
i think it’s so important that our family gathers at the table each evening to share a meal. luke’s family lives just down our dirt road so every week we share at least one dinner with them. we gather at the table & tell stories, share podcasts we’re listening to & books we’re reading. they taught me the value of slowing down to break bread together.
in those moments, we find everyday beauty.

I just have to say, you have the best in-laws ever. I love Luke's parents to death!
And to enter into the contest… "gather". The word almost makes me sad because I still don't have the group of special people I could gather with. I have more friends than I did a year ago in this town, but still no one our family can "gather" together with in the intimate way the word describes. It's possibly because I'm constantly thinking of when and how we can leave this town, and therefore it's impossible to settle down and make real connections.

When I think of gather, I go to to preparation first…. We do a lot of cooking in our family. My mother taught me to gather in my food creations, to find what there is and form a meal from there.
I think the same can be said for lots of things. When decorating, you don't have to go buy, you gather the things you have and create a new space…. Gather… A bringing together of things…

Wow, I can really relate to what Lori wrote (above). We are in such an unusual season of not having close friendships, as we have had in past locations. I still do my best to "gather" with my little family, whether it's around the table or a good read-aloud book or the Christmas tree, because they are who are right in front of me and it's a joy to be a "gatherer" of them. And I know the season will eventually change and God will bring more friends.

Gather is coming together with intention to share honestly and with joy and love to those you are with. My favorite times of the year are when I gather with friends and family for simple and meaningful meals. Those are the real memory makers.

When I hear the word gather, I think of wrangling on those closest to you, wrangling them in REALLY close. Elbows almost touching at the table, so that you may carry a conversation on with eye contact and read a persons gestures.

Gathering reminds me of a hen gathering her chicks. So basically it makes me want to be a mom, haha. But in the meantime, I'll gather with my family and my husband as often as humanly possible.

I would do the word 'love'. It's both a descriptor and a reminder, I guess – my husband and I had our first baby about four months ago and the days are so crazy and hectic and insane and full of love – but at the same time I feel like I need a reminder to really chill and enjoy it, because she won't be so small for very long.

To me, gather means to stop and observe. To reevaluate what I'm doing. Like "gathering" my thoughts. I remind myself often to just stop and be. It's one of the best things I can do for myself and for my family. Time goes by way too fast and I want to make sure I'm enjoying every moment.

To me I always think of family when I hear the word "gather". A large group of us all together laughing and enjoying the company of one another. Also, food is generally involved 🙂
