hello, friends! thank you for coming to this space! it means so, so much. especially when i am about to dedicate a blog post to yarn & bottles… oh yes.
these days, my crafting is almost always gardening related. working as a program coordinator at a garden-based non-profit organization means i have a blast with kiddos several times a week in the garden. unfortunately, during our scheduled gardening clubs this season, it has rained a lot. that means a whole lot of inside time during what should be a glorious afternoon outside planting seeds & harvesting school-grown vegetables. don’t worry, though. we sure have made the best of it – cooking, nature journaling & crafting!
today i want to share with you a little project that gets the wee ones involved & brightens your home! it’s even a perfect mother’s day gift!
yarn-wrapped vases
supplies needed:
– bottle
– hot glue gun & hot glue
– yarn
1. place a dot of hot glue on the very top rim of your bottle & quickly press the string of yarn to it. this is a great opportunity to use up your stash of not-so-glamorous yarn. i filled up a canvas bag full of yarn & my sweet students had so much fun digging through the pile to find their favorite colors.
2. begin wrapping the yarn around the bottle, making sure there are no gaps. you should not need hot glue to do this until the very end. i found that the easiest way for my students to do this was placing the bottle on the table right-side up & (very) slowly spinning the bottle around, allowing for the yarn to curve around the bottle.
3. once you are at the bottom of your bottle with the yarn, carefully hot glue the entire last row of yarn.
this is such a quick project! it took me about 10 minutes per bottle. i would love to make these for a wedding shower & have them displayed in groups with stems of flowers. this project would also look wonderful with garden string for a natural look.
